Neopartisan and Thoroughly Amateur

No, I don't read Greenwald on a daily basis. I may read it if BG has referenced it or if I come across it by accident. Like today. I was searching for the banned Opus cartoon strip to see what the outrage was about. After checking it out, I read what Greenwald had to say.

I agree with his thought that any new AG should be independent. It is what this country needs. But not for his reason.

Glenn Greenwald- The Democrats' responsibility in the wake of Gonzales' resignation

Instead, the DOJ and the country desperately need a completely outside figure
who will ensure that the prosecutorial machinery operates independently, even if
-- especially if -- that means finally investigating the litany of Executive
branch abuses and lawbreaking which have gone almost entirely uninvestigated, as
well uncovering those which remain concealed.

Oh and he was so close to being rational and making sense. The "litany of abuses and lawbreaking". Just because you want it to be so doesn't mean it is. If he could get away from his hatred of the Bush administration, he might realize that that is exactly what the new AG does NOT need to be doing. He just wants someone to dig up the dirt. Or at least keep digging hoping for dirt. Yes, he repeats that he wants the dirt again. Anything to make his job easier I guess.
All of the investigations and scandals, currently stalled hopelessly, can be
dramatically and rapidly advanced with an independent Attorney General at the
helm of the DOJ.

Investigation and scandals. Could they be stalled because the Democrats have nothing? And that by demanding all of these documents from the Bush administration is the only way they may find the claimed "litany of abuses and lawbreaking"?

Big Lizards- Unprecedented Assault on Executive Privilege Underway

It is important to note that in neither case has Congress formally
alleged any violation of law
; no criminal indictments have forthcome;
and nothing else has been presented to override the normal presumption of
Executive privilege for the work product of the president and other
administration officers not subject to Senate confirmation, as heads of agencies
are. The Democrats demand the materials solely because they want to better be
able to politically oppose Republicans and Republican policies.
Where is the alleged violation of law that Greenwald claims is there in abundance?

Congress needs to stop trying to play politics and get back to doing the job they are elected for. The Waxmans and Levins need to stop the grandstanding and work for the people that elected them. They are not in Washington to witch hunt.

But let's get back to Greenwald's initial thought. An independent AG. This country could use someone who is going to keep the President in line as well as Congress. Someone who can tell both sides, Democrat and Republican, to just shut the hell up and get back to running the freakin' country and stop your petty squabbling.
